Quarry

Question
Thanks for the advice already send as I am a still progressing Bass fisherman who is always open for suggestions and tips.

I have a question: I have been fishing a local quarry which has very clear water and has a rocky bottom with very little structure.

In the middle of the quarry there is a rocky drop off running right through from one side to the other, which is very steep on the

one side and declining gradually on the other. There is a grass patch in the one corner holding some smaller bass and the water

there is a bit dirtier than in the rest of the quarry. I do not know what the water temp. is but it is a lot warmer now than it was during

the winter time as it is now spring time and during the winter time I couldn抰 see the bass but now I see them everywhere. The deeper parts

of the quarry is about 2-4 meters in dept (maybe more) and the bottom there is not visible but I can feel some big rocks when fishing my lure through

the deeper areas. I have caught some small bass there during winter time and thought that it would be better now but its not the case. I can see the bass following

my worms while reeling them in but they don抰 want to take it, as the worm gets closer to the side I let it drop to the bottom and then is also followed by the bass and they sit there and

stare at the lure until I move it, then they turn around and swim away. Even when I just leave it there they lose interest and swim away.

The bigger bass following the lure is normally accompanied by a smaller bass. The smaller bass in the grass patch is very spooked and swims away when I reel

My lure close to them slow fast I have tried everything. I have tried every thing from senko抯 which produced bass during

Winter to curly tails, frogs, Cranks, top water ect. I caught a 1.5 kg with a spinner bait yellow in color while letting it drop to the bottom right in the

deepest side of the quarry and 2 smaller Bass with a see through curly tail with some silver flakes which I picked up on the bank, but that is for a

whole mornings fishing witch is kind of bad I think for water with so many big bass. I have also tried lots of colors, rigs and techniques but can not

find the right combination. There are lots of African Clawed Frog in the quarry but imitations of this also doesnt work. Its kind of strange because

other dams in the area has already produced lots of bass for me but this one seems to be cursed. It would be much appreciated if you can give me

some advice, in the mean time ill just keep trying until I win this little buggers.

Thanks

Answer
You should try a bass colored jerkbait.  It seems that if there are so many small bass the larger ones should be feeding on them.  Also try going to eight lb. flourocarbon and using a more discreet hook.  You might also try a softplastic crawfish on a shakey head jig.  Ask a follow up question if this doesn't help.
