Question
Jack,

You have the most infomative articles on fishing a specifice area that I have seen on the internet.  On behalf of a person who likes to fish new bodies of water, thank you.  You have saved me countless hours in searching.
I recently took my first trip to Seminole.  Found a few fish north of Wingates around an Island.  Top water was great.  Fished deep water in the pool with little success.  I will return this weekend (staying at Spring Creek Lodge), and will devote the entire weekend to the Spring Creek area.  One day I will spend fishing some of the area you've mentioned, and then will try and go to the Fish Pond area.  Any suggestions.

Thanks again,
Gene

Answer
Gene; Thank you for your comments.  I just love fishing and am always glad to be of help to others who also love to fish.  With the hot weather we have been having I personally wouldn't go on the water until around 5:30pm or try very early in the morning.  A top water should be good about anywhere there is cover and relatively calm water.  Around the edges of the islands of hydrilla or in holes in it.  Along the creek bank, not necessarily in the creek bed itself but off to either side should be good.  I do not mean don't try the bends of the creek as these may be holding places during the hot part of the day.

I haven't fished Fishpond drain and the ponds upstream a great deal.  I have caught some bass in Ray's lake way up in the upper end.  Most of the lake is shallow and very heavily weeded but the north end is a little deeper.  There are a few stickups near the northwest corner of the pond and the large expanse of big lilly pads has always looked good to me.  I just haven't tried fishing there that much.  It is a fifteen mile run from my place by boat although if I put my boat on the trailer it to Rays lake it is less than six miles by car.  There is a very good landing as well.

I do not expect it is time for the fish to be gathering like they do later on in the trees out from the north bank out from Reynolds' landing but it may be worth a try.  Later on during the cold weather the bass gather in large numbers in these tree stumps and last year they really hit swim baits.  I suspect worms or other plastics would be the best bet this time of year except for the topwaters early and late in the day. Crank baits and spinnerbaits are also good at times. If one thing does not work don't hesitate to try things that might seem outlandish to you. Bass can have strange notions as you must know if you have fished for them long.

I hope you have a good luck.  Maybe if I get my boat back ready for fishing I might see you on the water.  Of course you are welcome to give me a call at 229-861-2366 or e-mail at
[email protected].  I live just a mile east of Spring Creek Lodge.

Thank you for calling on me to answer your question.
