Answer
Mike,
I am going to assume your tag is accurate and the rod is 11.5 feet long . The metal is Nickel-Silver not sterling. The butt cap tells us your serial number.

Your rod was made in 1947 according to :
Hardy  history and serial number table

I have had a chance to verify the accuracy of this list.

According to Antique %26 Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification %26 Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) the Hardy Palakona fly rod 8 1 /2' , 2 piece. extra tip is valued at  $80, 160 and $275 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. You could add 30% due to the age of the book.
Yours being a 11.5 footer it is worth less than the 8.5', but if you sell it for it's original purpose as a 2 handed spey / salmon rod , it might be worth more due to the recent fad in spey casting.

As general information, Hardy rods manufactured prior to 1966 should carry individual identification numbers #i.d.# stamped on the reel fitting, or butt cap.

I quote these books written by researchers so you know I am not making it all up, But I include my experience as well.

It has taken me the best part of an hour to write this up , please take a few seconds to provide feedback. Please remember I am a volunteer , the feedback is the only result I get from doing this.

Luck,
Mac
