Silaflex rod
Question
Hi, I have a neat, vintage fly rod from my grandfather and wonder about its value. It's a Silaflex model MC65-2; measure 6-1/2-ft. Virtually new condition with velvet bag and aluminum screw-top case.
From the 50's I believe. Shame to have it sit here with non-fisherman. Any ideas? Thank you -Dixon
Answer
Hi Dixon,
Yours is a "Medallion" model Silaflex from porbably the mid-1950s. The MC65-2 is also the shortest version of this fly rod made by Silaflex and sold for $60-$75 when new...a very high price for the times. I don't have any informatiom on value for the rod...sorry...but I would guess it is worth $200 at least.
You probably can get more information at the fiberglass fly rodders web site regarding the rod and its current value. You might also get a few offers. Don't sell it too cheap. In fact, you might want to hold on to it for a bit longer.
Thanks, Joe
