Shakespeare International 2pc 9.5ft rod. Model number 1518
Question
QUESTION: Please advise me on this rod. Tried Google and failed.
The rod does not specify line class or matching lure weights which may be used!!!
ANSWER: Hi Graham,
What kind of rod is this? Fly, spinning, surf? Fiberglass, graphite?
I found a couple of possible model 1518 rods linked to Shakespeare but the rod type will help narrow it down? The more info the better.
Thanks, Joe

QUESTION: Hi Joe, the rod is for spinning as the guides depict. Maybe it is a surf rod. Is there some way to verify the material used in the rod blank? My Eagle Claw Ocean Granger 2 pc spinning rod is glass and weighs much more so I presume the Shakespeare is graphite. The metal reel seat is surrounded by a cork handle. The guides are plain metal with no ceramic except the tip. I believe this rod is in original condition although am not the first owner.
Answer
Hi Graham,
I did not have much better luck finding anything definitive. My guess is this is a graphite rod made in the 1980s-1990s time frame. No help on line and lure weight either. I would probably start with lighter line and lures and work my way up in practice casts until I found a comfortable range for the rod and myself. Shakespeare still produces a number of similar rods and perhaps you can find one in a store that matches closely the rod you bought; then use those line and lure weights as a starting point for this one. Value is likely not high; maybe $20-$40 at best would be my guess.
Sorry not to be of more help on this one.
Joe
