older English bamboo rod
Question
I have a 6.5ft bamboo rod but I don't know it's age or value.
It is a Spinrite apparently made by Harris, Redditch,Eng
#183.
Any idea of age or app value??
Answer
Hi Warren,
I have no information at all on Harris of Redditch, but I don't have a lot on the English rod makers. As to age, I would guess anywhere from the 1940s to present with the most likely time frame the 1950s-1980s or so. Bamboo spinning rods don't typically command the high values that fly rods do. However, they do have reasonable value depending on condition. Value also depends on quality of the rod and, to some degree the reputation of the maker as well. I don't have anything on Harris, but an average of values for similar rods made by English rod makers would be; Good-Very Good condition $40-$80 range; Excellent-Mint condition $100-$150 range. Perhaps you can use these as a guide to set the value of your rod.
Thanks, Joe
