Fly rod and reel question
Question
My brother gave me my father's old fly rod and reel this Christmas. I was looking for some information on this combo.
The rod has Green Pal 4728-F 8 1/2'WT.8 Line. It is a Martin reel with 60 stamped on the back. It has a price tag on it for $13.47 and inspector #2 on the handle.
Any information about this combo would be appricated, I only know that my dad bought it in the 60s.
Answer
John,
Martin is one of the oldest manufacturers of fly fishing reels. Your reel is a common size manufactured for a number of years. The reel as a much value as a working reel as a collectable since they are very common. They sell on ebay for $5-$15.
I dont recognize the rod name. It sounds like a low/mid quality fiberglass fly rod. Typically these rods dont carry much value, with most of the collector interest in the custom made rods, particularly split bamboo rods. The numbering is for the length of the rod and the recommended fly line wieght.
you could post a question here on the fly rod to get a second opinion.
