telescopic fly rod.
Question
Robert, I would like to know the age and value of an older fly rod I have. It is marked J.C. Higgins, sold only by sears & . roebuck It is black tubular metal with a green bass decal on the base section, cork butt with metal reel holder. the two telescopic sections are of copper rod with one eyelet on each section. Thanks for any information you can provide. Larry
Answer
Larry
Your rod is approximately 1930s thru 1950s, when fiberglass replaced metal as the low cost material. Sears didnt make rods, but they were made by multiple manufacturers under the Higgins line.
Most of the collectors interest is in high quality custom rods, particularly those made of split bamboo.
Your rod has minimal collectors interest, would sell for $5-$15 depending on condition.
