Question
Hello Sir,I have a JC Higgins bamboo fly rod model # 3010.I can not find any info on this rod.I'm finding model numbers all around it but not the exact one.I believe the rod to be 75 years old,has original reel and cloth carring case with it.Condition is good to great.Could you give me your opinion of the value please. Thanks
Answer
Doyce,
J.C. Higgins rods were sold at Sears & Roebuck.
Sears never made rods so yours was probably made by Horrocks-Ibbotson who had a fish decal or Montague. I have seen several Higgins rods and they were lower quality and value Horrocks-Ibbotson rods.
Higgins is mentioned in the Price Book: Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
I assume your rod is not round but has 6 sides. Also that your rod has the handle above the reel seat. If any of above is not true then neither is my opinion.
Homel gives the J.C. Higgins Model 3001 trout fly rod 9' with an extra tip, 3 sections the value of $20, 55 and $95 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. Your
A rod can not be good to great. There is too much difference, I suggest you try the library for Homel which has a concrete observable criterion for conditions.

Mac
