QuestionHello
My father recently gave me a Sakura Fly fishing kit. The bamboo rod and
tackle are in a balsa wood box and it had the original tackle & flys (still
wrapped as the day he bought it). My father bought it in Japan in 1948 and
there is a typed out letter that is signed by a Mr. Sakura. Even the label on
the box is in perfect condition. I am not sure of its value, but would
appreciate and ball park estimate you can give me. The reason I ask is if it is of significant value, I would not be inclined to fish with it. If there is any additional information you need, please ask.
Thanks.
AnswerJames,
I don't know how old you are but when I was a kid in the 50s Japanese made trinkets to survive . Made in Japan was synonymous with junk. Originally sold by the thousands to GIs in a light long box with lures and huge flies . Mostly considered trinkets, by collectors but memorial to GIs , they have little resale or fishing value.

This rod usually switches from fly to casting rod.
Sakura is still in business try them and please let me know what you learn (
