QuestionJoe, I happen to stumble upon your site and I like to advice that you offered to many questions. I have a Fenwick Feralite rod FF9310 9ft 3inch 5 1/2oz rod that takes #10 fly line. This rod was given to me by my father as a Christmas gift in the early to mid 60s. This rod has gone through a lot and I would like to replace the eyes. My Dad has an even earlier model feralite rod but all the eyes on his pole are ceramic except the tip. I would like to replace all the eyes on my pole even the snake type smaller eyes with ceramic eyes but just can't seem to find any acceptable ceramic eyes. I searched numerous sites and coming up short. Any advice or suggested sites would be appreciated.

AnswerHi Ken,
There should be a number of acceptable guides for this task. There are single foot guides with ceramic rings made specifically for fly rods...for example. Also, any single foot, ceramic ring guide suitable for light spinning use would work fine. If you prefer double foot guides, look for the smaller sizes in spinning or lightweight spinning guides with ceramic rings. Most rod building suppliers sell these types of guides.
I recently stopped selling components so my catalog is no longer online or I could point you to a specific example. Look at retailers like Sevier, Angler's Workshop, Acidrod, Merrick Tackle, Jann's Netcraft, etc, for ceramic ring fly guides. If you don't find anything, send me an email at
[email protected] and I'll see what I can do to help you locate appropriate guides.
Thanks, Joe
