AnswerHi Brad,
I can't tell much from the picture except that it has the appearance of rods made in England and also by many of the early American and Canadian rod makers. If you can provide additional information, I might be able to identify the maker...and then perhaps an approximate date and value. It is likely an early salmon rod.
Does the rod have a six-sided bamboo shaft or a round solid wooden shaft?
What are the letters on the brass butt cap that you are able to read...or guess at?
Are there any other markings stamped into the reel seat or the butt cap?
There do not appear to be ferrules on the rod. It looks to me as if it may have been stripped of all original guides, wraps and ferrules prior to refinishing or restoration. As you look at the rod shaft are you able to see any light colored rings or shadows in the finish?
Did you get any components like brass ferrules or wire guides with the rod?
Thanks, Joe
