QuestionHi Rich
I came across these two rods and would appreciate knowing if it is worth restoring them.
1 Hardy brs E31880 ( three pce with spare tip split cane fly rod.spare tip has a joint in it and some eyes are bent)
2 JJS. Walker. Bampton& co 18421 (3 piece split cane fly rod but i cant find tip)
They are in pretty good condition.
I would appreciate any advice and also will salt water do any damage to the cane?
regards
Peter Richards
AnswerPeter,
Your rods are UK rods. I am a US bamboo fly rod man. But I think I can give you a small direction.
1 E31880 as near as I can determine was made in 1935 , just an estimate . Pictures to
[email protected] would help. I would need allot more information but it is worth restoring and selling - several hundred dollars. Right now worthless. email
[email protected] and I can help you with this.
2 Walker Bampton produced rods for Farlows in the early 1950s.
I doubt if you are going to reach the US collectors market , maybe the Hardy will be known and sell but not the Bampton. I would look into the UK or European market.
Condition- they are in poor condition if "some eyes are bent" and worse if a tip is missing.
When referring to the eyes may I suggest the term, "guide".
I do not know what you mean by "spare tip has a joint in it ", break ? bend ?
ebay-UK would be one place to sell it . As I am not in the UK I can't really advise very well on you where to sell it, but here's some thoughts;
Take it to Farlows in London
Hardy is in Alnwick web page http://www.hardyfishing.com/en-gb/home/
look into the customer service , I see a phone number there.
This is a website selling a Hardy rod in England http://www.itackle.co.uk/greys-hardy-streamlite-fly-rods/
You can try selling it at the Classic Fly Rod Forum at no cost http://www.classicflyrodforum.com/topic/12529/t/New-Hardy-Rod-s.html
similar forums in the UK are
