Question
Box of flies
Dad bought a cottage in 1971, the neighbor showed me how to fly fish. During the summer he gave me this wood box of EBISU flies. There are 100 in the box. The box has a couple of cracks. What's it worth, do you have any idea. I've looked at antique shops but nothing like it. Thanks
AnswerTerry,
I am a rod man , I have seen EBISU rods with flies, the rods are stored in a box made of materials same as yours. I am guessing the size of the flies from your ruler to be 12 and up. It is similar to the flies I have seen with the fly / spin switch rod in a box.
My evaluation of Japanese rods:
"I don't know how old you are but when I was a kid in the 50s Japanese made trinkets to survive . Made in Japan was synonymous with junk. Originally sold by the thousands to GIs in a light long box with lures and huge flies . Mostly consider trinkets by collectors but memorial to GIs , they have little resale or fishing value. I have some small History of Japanese rods:

This rod usually switches from fly to casting rod."
I am not the best source for collecting flies but my guess is they are not resalable here in the states, maybe a tax write off, donate it to a fishing museum. Japan is another thing.
The word "EBISU" is not in :
