QuestionI have an actionrod bamboo flyfishing rod from Orchard industries inc., Detroit 5, Michigan. It is model #1966 and measures 8'6" long however the tip has been broken so I suspect that it was probably 9"0". It is three piece with six sided bamboo and a cork handle. The reel mounts on the end of the pole below the handle. Can you tell me the vintage of this pole and how I can fix the tip?

Vintage :
Actionrod as a model or maker is not in any of my books or memory ,as you described yours.
Same Orchard industries but there are some on ebay - you could watch the auctions for prices.:
Books:
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.

Repair tip:
Do you have the broken 6 inches ?
Some guys will splice the broken or a new 6 inch piece.
I don't like to do that as it usually doesn't; last too long.
I have been know to put a graphite tube , glued , over the break.
Plan B - I find one with the same length and taper in my big collection of bamboo rod parts cost = $40.
Plan C - I make a new one -$150.
But I would probably not due any of these unless the rod is medium to high quality.
email me if interested in any of those solutions
Luck,
Mac
