QuestionI found a 1953 Orvis "inpregnated superlite" in original bag and tube. Looks like it was never fished. Serial # is 14756 made 8/20/53 by George Reid and Cal Skinner..Any idea on value?..I can take pics if it is worth it to do so..Thank you!
AnswerJeffrey ,
From the Orvis database: A Collector's Reference Copyright 2003-2008 James Gregory Reynolds ~ All Rights Reserved Revision ~ January 1, 2008

According to the serial number provided you rod is a bamboo spinning rod and they are just not as collectible as fly rods. This database is on the Internet history; otherwise they put you off.
Price Book: Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Homel does not mention a superlite, but mentions several superfine fly rods, and as you serial number says superfine , I am assuming you have a 6 foot spinning rod which would not resale for more than $50. Homel is not conclusive , leaving out a few models here and there.
If I am guessing wrong and you want to try again, while we are at it, as I say on my all experts page:
If you are asking for the id or value of an old rod please give a complete description , send pictures especially labels or logos to me,
[email protected] and a complete description including any of following that you can:
Is it? fly or casting rod ? Reel seat is below or above the cork handle ?
Check metal for id and patents ? What is it made of; bamboo # flat sided# fiberglass or graphite # round#? Weight in oz? What is the diameter #not circumference) of the rod above the handle? Where was it purchased ? What type of metal nickel-silver, tin, or chrome platted brass? A complete description of any logos or labels. Length of rod per section and number of sections. Total rod length.
Luck,
Mac
