vintage true temper flyfishing rod

Question
I recently bought a old true temper flyfishing rod with a old Pflueger MEDALIST reel on it at a flea market. The rod has custom built twelve fifty above the true temper name and just beside the name is an outline of a fish with 1255A inside it. I cannot make out the numbers below the 8' symbol but it ends in 5A. I was wondering if you could tell me the size line to use with it and how much it might be worth.

Answer
Hi Craig,

The older glass fly rods typically don't have a great deal of collector value.  This one would be from the 1960s-1970s era and would be valued in the $10-$40 range depending on condition.  It will probably handle a 7wt line pretty well, possibly an 8wt...if you have a way of trying both before you buy one, you should be able to tell which feels better pretty quickly.

The reel is fairly common and would likely be valued in the $10-$40 range depending on condition and specific model of Medalist.  It could be from the 1940s-1970s era.

Thanks,  Joe
