sport king fly rod
Question
I was given a sport king rod from my dad twenty years ago. I do not know any thing about this rod. I was thinking about selling it to someone who collects fly rods. I have know use for it.Its a four piece rod.It looks like wood or bamboo. Its in very good condition. Its stored in a green fabric holder. It also came in a black card board tube with a metal twist cap. Just wondering if its worth selling or should i keep storing it in my garage. Thanks .Steve
Answer
Hi Steve,
The Sport King rods were marketed by Montgomery Wards & Company, a competitor of Sears. It is made of bamboo and was most likely made by the Horrocks-Ibbotson Company for Wards. With the original bag and tube, and with all four rod sections intact, the rod in very good condition would be valued in the $75-$100 range. The better the condition, the higher the value.
