the best time of day

Question
hey bro, I'm a huge whitetail deer hunter been hunting since i was big enough to hold a gun, but i am not having so good of luck with fishing...I've been fishing several times and i always catch some small catfish or nothing at all....i was wondering since your from Georgia and me being in Alabama if you could tell me when the best time of day you go fishing and have the most luck. thanks man,Alabama deer slayer..clay

Answer
Clay; as with all things of this type the answer is "when you can get on the water".  However there are answers but not an answer.  Most of my fishing except in cool weather is late in the afternoon just before sunset until....  In cool weather I will fish just about any time.  I would rather have low light conditions for the type of fishing I do which is mostly for bass or occasionally brim or shellcrackers or crappie.  These last three will bite from daylight to dark if you can find them.

If I knew a little more about what kind of fishing you do I could be more specific.  You say you catch small catfish so you must be using some sort of live bait or cut bait or worms etc.  For bass if you want to use live bait use a large shiner or sucker about 6 inches long.  For crappie use a minnow about one to one and a half inches long.  Brim like small worms and crickets while shellcrackers are particular to worms.  Probably most bass are caught on artificial lures and there are hundreds of these. There are probably six or seven types of artificial lures with small differences between them.  Sometimes these small differences make a great difference however.

I don't know if you are fishing a lake, a pond or a stream.  Each has some different tactics and baits that work best.

So to finish up with your question some fish like bright sunshine others hide from it and do not bite well.  Some fish are largely nocturnal and seldom bite during the day.  There are a few that seem to bite almost anytime if you can find them.

If you want more specific answer try a follow up telling me more about where you fish, the kind of fishing you do, the baits you use and as much more as you can and I will try to be specific for each one.

Sorry I couldn't give a better answer but don't give up.  Write me back about the specifics and I will give a better answer.  Thanks for calling on me to try to answer your question.
