QuestionI have my grandfather's bamboo fly rod, make unknown, and am considering having it restored. The rod is in very poor condition other than the cork and reel seat. No finish, missing all guides except one snake guide and tip top. One side in top section (3 piece) has two fractures and a large portion of the rod has delaminated. Not considering fishing the rod but would like to keep it in the family looking like a complete fly rod. Suggestions please.
AnswerMike
One thought is tie it up with 7x tippet , hang it on the wall.
Send me pictures if you want- I can repair delaminations, refinish a rod , put on authentic guides and tip tops but the fractures worry me. I have done some museum work repairing fractures but the rods are never going to be fished , they look nice but only from 3 sides. I don't think anyone can do any better unless they rebuild the sections from scratch, which I can also do. e-mail for specifics
[email protected], it's about 35 per section for restoration.
luck,
Mac
