Kingfisher bamboo rod
Question
My father inlaw just bought a 3 pc kingfisher bamboo fly rod. Each pc. measure 4'. It has a cork handle with the metal pc. above it with the kingfisher name on it. It also has in black lettering on the the bamboo just above the metal kingfisher name, Al. i or l vlenegay. can u help me with this. He was just wondering if this is a classic, and how do measure one of these Bamboo rods. Like I said earlier each of the 3 pcs. measure 4' each. Thanks for your time.
Answer
Hi James,
The Kingfisher brand was used by Edward K. Tryon company on rods made for them by Montague and Heddon. I do not show a lisitng for a 12'0" Kingfisher rod but it is possible. Montague made a 12'0" salmon rod and they certainly could have provided this to Tryon with a Kingfisher marked reel seat at some point. The inscription doesn't mean anything to me; it may be the name of the original owner.
I would guess value to be in the $75-$130 range depending on actual rod condition.
Thanks, Joe
