milwards fishing rods
Question
hi there joe, i was wondering if you could help me, i have two milwards fishing rods i am thinking of selling but have no idea of there value and i dont want to get ripped of when i do sell them, so do you have any idea of the vaule of 1st a milwards 8ft spincraft rod which is in very nearly mint due to having it restored about 4 years ago and not used it since. and also another milwards rod but i dont know much about this one other than its a 3piece 12ft float rod which the 1st and 2nd piece are made out of cane i think or it could be bamboo and they have a burnt zig zag patten on them and the 3rd piece is made out of greenheart, the eyes are metal and the whipping are all original and the cork handle has hardly seen a reel on it . many thanks if you could help me out. all the best. ian miller.
Answer
Hi Ian,
Sounds like a couple of pretty nice rods.
The spincraft rod would probably be valued in the $120-160 range assuming it is in Excellent-Mint condition.
Are the lower sections of the other rod six sided or are they round? Do they have any obvious nodes in the shafts like a bamboo/cane rod would have? If they are round and there are no visible nodes, I would guess this rod is entirely greenheart wood. If so, the rod in Excellent-Mint condition would be valued in the $225-$275 range depending on actual condition.
As an aside, bamboo and cane are the same thing. It is confusing at times because people tend to use these descriptors as if they refer to different materials.
If the rod is some combination of materials, I don't have any data on it as to value.
Thanks, Joe
