Question
Fishing Rod
Hello Again, we came across another fishing rod that we cannot identify. This one is three pieces, One handle with two tips. Seems like split bamboo with a cork handle, however it is very light...could the handle be aluminum? Handle piece is 46" and the tips are 45-1/2". All the string guides are attached. No marking that I can see on the rod or the bag. Wooden insert in the bag holds the tips. This was given to my friends husband in the 50's by a neighbor in the San Francisco Bay Area...no way of knowing how long he had it before that. Thanks in advance for any information.
AnswerLynn,
It isn't aluminum but I know what you mean - aluminum would bend too easily - It's tin , brass , chrome and steel. The fact we think it appears to be aluminum speaks to the poor quality of the components. It probably is a fair fishing tool but made my Montague or Horricks-Ibbotson. It looks to be in good condition. But without a label , logo or writing the resale value is under $25.
The rod was made post 30s - pre 60s, I can tell by the thread wrappings - the glue is relatively modern.
I wish I could cast this rod - with the right description it might sell for $100.
Luck,
Mac
