Capras by Sussex
Question
I have three Bi-Flex Graphite Fly Rods custom made in Japan
They are all in their individual aluminum tubes and brown cloth sheaths that say: Pro Shop Sawada
They all say: Bi-Flex Graphite Fly Rod Capras Especially designed by Sussex
1. 8' # 4~5
2. 8' 7" # 6
3. 7' 7" # 4~5
My husband got these as gifts in Japan around 1975. They are all in perfect condition (Never used). I'm thinking about taking a fly fishing workshop. When we went to the fishing store the clerk advised us that we should check and see if these rods were valuable or not before I went out to use one to learn on.
Answer
Hi Karen,
I have no information on these rods. I did some searching and found of the rods listed on Japanese auction sites...interesting and informative.
These appear to be rods that would be valued in the $250-$500 range, depending on model and condition, which would make them similar in value to most quality fly rods on the market here in the USA. I know that there is a lengthy tradition of quality fly rod building in Japan and would presume the rods to be good ones.
I would guess that it is fine to use the rods and enjoy them.
Thanks, Joe
