ROD & REEL ??
Question
Hello I'm going fishing again and will need to purchase new equipment. I will be fishing off of a head & or charter boat, places are Virgina Beach, VA, Lewie Del, Moore Head City NC and maybe so rivers here in this area. $$$ is an issue so I will need a setup that can Handel both with changing the line if need be. I prefer rod 6.6 or shorter. Show me whats you have. THANKS
Answer
The most versatile equipment is generally a spinning rod so that is what I would have normally recommended. The reels come with a spare spool so you could have one reel and two types of line for it. I am not sure what you are fishing for and that would dictate how heavy of a rod and reel you may want. A 4000 size reel could handle lines from 10 to 25 pounds and a little heavier in the braids. The rod should probably be medium-heavy to heavy to withstand the rigors of a head-boat.
Something like an Ugly Stick may fit your needs. There are all kinds of reels available. Something at least in the $50 range should be a starting point. Daiwa and Shimano both make reels in that range that would service you well.
I'd need to know more about what you plan to fish for to get more into detail.
