Fiber cargon line
Question
I fish a clear water lake in Arkansas and target Walleye. I understand that fiber carbon is more sensitive when it comes to the light biting walleye, but I have trouble with it twisting after a few hours of fishing with a spinning reel. I even tried using line conditioner bought at Bass Pro. It got so bad, I went back to mono. Is it that much more sensitive than mono? And if so, how do you stop it twisting?
Answer
Hello,Tom!! Glad you dropped me a line, well to answer your question;fluorocarbon line is absolutely more sensitive than monofilament, not only that,it has low stretch and is very abrasion resistant, and this is a good line to use when throwing crankbaits, jerkbaits, and jigging for walleye. Now to end that problem with it twisting on you,one thing you can do is when your spooling up,make sure the reel is on the rod your using, run the line through the guides, and tie to your spool as usual.Next lay the spool of fluorocarbon on the floor[don't spool line like you would a baitcaster with a spinning reel, you'll get more twisting in the line, even with mono.]Next put a little tension in the line by holding the line with your fingers, now make about five to ten full turns with the reel handle, then check for any twisting,if you do find the line is twisting, all you have to do is flip the spool of line over on the other side, this should prevent any further twisting,as you spool up,keep a little tension in the line so the line goes on tight and smooth, remember fluorocarbon is stiffer than mono,so don't overfill the spool. What I do I'll fill my reel within an eighth of an inch from being completely full, this seems to keep twisting down, and prevents my line from springing off the spool. There are some great tools on the market that can aid you in spooling up your line correctly, bass pro shops, cabela's,have these tools to help in getting that line on your reel;check out www.basspro.com or www.cabelas.com and you should find what you need.If you have anymore questions, drop me a line!!! Thanks for your question Tom!! GOOD FISHING!!
