Question
Round Bamboo
I have a very old round bamboo fly rod. I just returned from the Midwest IWFF rendezvous, Montauk State Park and Mark Van Patten (the tying bench)looked at it and confirmed that it is old and bamboo. I have hunted information on this rod (which has been restored) but can not find anything. the guides a 'striated' from using silk, it has an agate stripping guide with ornate engraving...I can send more pictures
AnswerHi Elaine,
It was at one time "fashionable" to build bamboo rods with the corners rounded. I have a couple of these myself. The stripper guide in the photo is certainly an old one.
If you can send additional photos to
[email protected] I will do some research and see if I can discover the maker...or at least make some educated guesses. It looks to be in good shape.
Try to get closeup shots of the reel seat, handle, ferrules, tiptops, stripper, a typical snake guide, wraps and any writing on the rod or information stamped into the metal parts.
Thanks, Joe
