Rorbyggd Glasfiber Rod
Question
Hi Hope you can help. I have inherited a "Rorbyggd Glasfiber" Rod from my Grandfather who passed away. He was Norweigian, which is obviously Scandanavian, as the name on the rod sounds. I have searched the internet high and low, and have found no mentions to this maker. It looks to be hand signed, in red ink. The rod itself is dark cherry color with brass colored fittings and embellishments. It has red thread and brass colored stripes around the holes where the line goes through. It also has what seems to be silver fittings where the 3 pieces connect, as well as the tip. It is a fly rod, since the threads are at the base of the rod. It also has cork, sealed in by some type of plastic. It measures approx 9-10 feet. It is in mint condition, seems to have been used maybe once or twice. I have never heard of the maker, and can't find any info.... have you heard of the maker, and do you have any idea of its value? Thanks, Tim
Answer
Hi Tim,
This is the first time I've seen this name. My guess would be that "Rorbyggd Glasfiber" is the style of the fiberglass rod blank for certain and possibly the rod maker...however, the rod may be made by someone else. This is a guess as I don't know, but I did find a couple of other rods (spinning rods) that appear to made of the same type of fiberglass blank that were marketed by ABU in the 1960s. I don't read Norwegian so I can't tell much.

Take a look at this page to see some spinning rods made of Glasfiber...both Rorbyggd and Massiv...that seem to be styles or varieties of fiberglass or maybe rod weights or actions?
Do any of the readers have a clue about this rod?
I don't have any data regarding value on this rod. Typical fiberglass fly rods of that vintage, built by quality makers and in mint condition, could run in the $100-$150 range, maybe more.
Are there any other markings on the rod?
Sorry not to be of more help.
Thanks, Joe
