catfish and carp
Question
I have been fishing for carp and catfish in central Wisconsin in the Wisconsin river for the last few weeks. I would like to know if what I am doing is alrite I have on 6 to 10 pound test I but one a medium size hook I but a worm out and let is sink to the bottom than I loosen the drag so they can run with it.i would also like to know what i should use for other fish in the Wisconsin river like Walleye, bluegills, and bass. and i would like some pointers on what bait or tackle to use and any thing else you think would help.
Answer
Hi Alex,
Night crawlers can catch a little of everything. Try some cut bait for the catfish. A chunk of bluegill or sucker can be very good.
Walleyes and Bass will like leeches or golden shiners and for the bluegills, they love waxworms or a very small piece of night crawler.
Ten pound test is good for the cats, carp, bass and walleyes. Go lighter for the bluegulls. Use as little sinkers, swivels (none) as you can. A hook tied right to the line, with a small split shot about 12" above the hook is a good system for catching anything. Let the current tell you how much weight to use.
Good luck,
