Dawn Holbrook bamboo rod
Question
Hello- I recently recieved a few rods from my great-grandfather. I am curious about 1 in particular. It is a Dawn Holbrook 8'. It is numbered 105. Also, it has 2 tips and original bag and hard case with it. looks as if this rod was never used. The reason why i ask is i can barely find any info or history on it. All the other rods that were handed down to me i can find some history on them. Any history or ideas of value? Not for sale, just a huge keepsake for me!
Answer
Hi Ethan,
Dawn Holbrook was a rod maker in the Seattle area and appears to have been active in the craft 40-50 years ago. His rods tend to be numbered (I saw a reference to #115) and he apparently also taught rod building classes. From what I saw in my searching, he was considered a builder of higer quality rods. I was not previously familiar with the name or this rod maker.
He produced a limited number of rods so I would assume the rod is somewhat rare and has a reasonable value to those familiar with the maker's work. This is a custom made rod, possibly made for your great-grandfather? I do not have any idea what the value might be. You could try posting an inquiry on ifish.com and see if any of the locals in the Seattle-Tacoma-portland area know more.
Thanks, Joe
