Trying to find info on a bamboo rod
Question
I have a bamboo fishing rod that came is a box, it has 5 pieces.
All pieces are about 3 foot long. Three of the pieces have tips,
one is butt part and the fourth can be used to make the rod very
long. The only identification I can find on it is a small decal
with a bear that say Bear made in Japan. Any help you can give me on this would be appreciated. I have done alot of looking and can find nothing. The box was made for the rod and parts and the
top box has sliding pieces that contain spots for lures and such.
Answer
Hi
after WWII, occupied japan made low cost split bamboo rods for sale in the US. They are fairly common and came in a nice box. There were numerous companies making these rods.
These rods run in the $30 to $60 range. Prices are down with the current economy.
(Most of the collector interest is in American custom made split bamboo flyrods).
