Action Rod, Bamboo Fly Rod
Question
Wondering the value of a bamboo fly rod that I discovered in an old cabin I purchased. Has a blue had plactic real seat with old aluminum rings. It is a 3 piece rod with two tips. Thread colors are red and black. The two tips have the original guides removed and the aluminum base ferrels removed. They must have been trying to restore in some way. It has a grean cloth sleeve that has a tag for Actionrod, Inc. Detroit, MI. Hovever, I am not sure this is the original case as it seems to be a poor fit. There are no other identifies or names on the bamboo rod.
Any ideas?
Answer
Steve,
It sounds like split bamboo rod stored in a Action Rod cloth bag. The key to the value of split bamboo rods is determining the maker. However, the fact that the tips have been disassembled hurts the value considerably.
I recommend you post photos of the rod at this website

The photos should be of the reel seat and any markings on the bamboo near the handle.
However, the plastic reel seat with aluminum rings suggests a low cost rod. If this is the case, then probably a $10-$20 item. Most of the high quality American made rods are well marked.
The action rod bag is probably worth $5-20 depending on condition.
