small stainless ?? fishing rod from late 1980s to early 1990s
Question
I have a question about a fishing rod that I would like to find but have no information on. In the very late 1980's or very early 1990's, I remember a small( less than 3') stainless steel fishing rod being sold at the local Walmart . It was made by Southbend I think, but not 100% sure about that. It had a black spincast handle and the rod was one piece of stainless steel. The guides on the rod were made by bending the rod in a coil spring type loop along the rod 3 or 4 times. Could have been an ice fishing rod but it seemed a little longer. These rods were not expensive, but I didn't get one before Walmart quit carrying them. I've always wanted to get one but my Ebay searches have turned up nothing. I know it's not much to go on but I would appreciate any help or info that you can give.
Answer
Hi David,
I also believe this is an ice fishing rod. I see them at outdoor shows, fairs and stores from time to time and even on ebay. Most of the ones I see have wooden handles. They are not paticularly valuable, but they look like they would work well. I've never tried one since I don't ice fish.
Maybe you should quit looking for one...whenever I do that I find it at the next show or store.
Thanks, Joe
