Allcocks Light Casting Split bamboo rod
Question
Hi Joe,
I have a nice old rod on my wall - with label - Allcock's Light Casting - it is a bamboo two pce
has some damage as it has a fracture running down one length - otherwise very good shape.
Can this type of "splitting" be repaired? What is the approx. value of a rod like this?
Answer
Hi Phillip,
The Allcock's Light Caster spinning rod in Good-Very Good condition would be valued in the $65-$90 range and in Excellent-Mint condition the $135-$160 range. With the damage it is worth very little...perhaps $20 or so.
Yes, the damage can be repaired. The repair cost and the actual work that needs to be done depend on the actual damage. It would likely cost more to repair than the value of the rod. If the rod has some sentimental value or is a family heirloom, it may be worth the cost of repair. Certainly, you can't buy a new one for the price.
Anyone considering the repair or providing you an estimate for the work would need a great deal more information and would want to inspect the rod personally before committing to the project.
Thanks, Joe
