Wright & McGill spinning rod
Question
I own a Wright %26 Mcgill 8' 3 section spinning rod "Granger" model. This rod has a 4th section which is an extra tip section. This rod is made with some kind of wood or maybe bamboo and is vintage in excellent condition. I was wondering if you could tell me the approx date of manufacture and what type of material this unit is made from. Could you also estimate the approximate Value?
Answer
Hi Steven,
This sounds like the "Special" spin/fly combination rod. If so, it is made of split bamboo. A W&M bamboo rod labelled as "Granger" would have been made between 1946 and the mid-1950s. Value of this rod in Good-Very Good condition is in the $150-$200 range; in Excellent-Mint condition in the $275-$325 range.
Thanks, Joe
