Question
ODD ROD
I HAVE A 5'9" SIX SIDED BAMBOO ROD, THE RO HAS ONE EYELET JUST ABOVE REEL MOUNT, TWO EYELETS OPPISITE SIDE FROM ONE ANOTHER IN MIDDLE AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE A TIP WITH THREE EXITS, TWO FROM EITHER SIDE AND ONE OUT TOP. THE REEL BASE DOES SAY KINGFISHER AND THE MARKING ON ROD TOUGH TO READ, BUT HAS A RED SYMBOL OF SOME SORT, THANKS
AnswerHi John,
You have a bamboo rod made in the style of a boat rod, typically used for saltwater fishing. The guides mounted on either side of the tip section and the tiptop with the ability to have line enter from both sides are functional. As you use bamboo fishing for larger fish, you can cause a set in the rod...or, a bend in the direction of the heavy weight. To avoid this problem this type of rdo is made to allow you to turn the rod over periodically and fish from the other side thereby evening out the stress on both side of the rod shaft.
Value on these old boat rods is slowly increasing over time and in average condition the rod would be valued in the $40-$100 range depending on actual condition.
Thanks, Joe
