old fiberglass rods

I was given some old Penn reels on fiberglass rods. Deep sea fishing style.  The reels seem to work properly.  They appear to be in good condition except for the eyes need to be re-wrapped and glued. Are the fiberglass rods ok/safe to fish with?  I don't want any splitting or breaking.

Hi Charles,

If the fiberglass doesn't show any damage, they should be fine to use.  Fiberglass is very durable, more than modern graphite rods.  Their flaw was a lack of sensitivity and weight.  For deep sea fishing, they should be fine.
