Marnco conolon spin flite 70
Question
The rod I have is a Marnco Conolon live fiber spin flite 70. Most of the ads i've seen state Garcia Conolon. Would this be a rod made before 1960 when Garcia took over Marnco as Garcia is not on the rod or sleeve? There is a blue cloth sleeve with the same label as the rod and an aluminum tube marked A A W Co "PEERLESS" Newark N J. This package is in mint unused condition. What would be a reasonable selling price?
Answer
Hi Roger,
This link will provide some additional data on NARMCO in its early days.

Your rod is likely an early NARMCO product. The cloth sleeve obviously goes with the rod. The Peerless AAW Co. Newark NJ label shows up on tubes, boxes and various containers holding fishing gear from time to time. It may either be an aftermarket product or the product of a container company that fits fishing gear well...I really don't know, but would suspect that the tube is not original to the rod set. Another option is that the tube may have been added to the rod set by a retailer and the whole thing sold as a unit...just another guess.
There are not enough of these rods around to make it into the reference books on values, but I would guess it would be valued in the $60-$80 range; perhaps a bit more.
Thanks, Joe
