QuestionMy father in law inherited a kingfisher 4 piece fly rod from his father in law. My father in law passed this year and now I have it. I would like to restore it so I can use it. I would also like to find out its worth. Where in southern California can I send the rod for restoration?
AnswerDarrel,
"Kingfisher" fly rod was made by by Montague. They were a low quality and price bamboo rod company.
Price Book:
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Homel gives the 9' "Kingfisher" with an extra tip, 3 sections the value of $35, 70 and $140 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. He doesn't mention a 4 piece rod , nor did you mention the length , extra tip etc.
Restore:
I don't know anyone in California because i restore rods. Almost none of my customers are in Denver where I live, it costs $16 to
ship a rod.
i fished a Montague Flash for many years and loved it. It was of my early restores.
e-mail me
[email protected] for more restore costs
Luck,
Mac
