QuestionQUESTION: My guess is from some of your answers that this is a post WWII rod and reel as it was my fathers. It has a wooden handle and is short (5.5) feet for a fly rod. In good shape but missing a piece on the bottom of the wooden handle. Any thing you can add to this?
ANSWER: Hi Suzanne,
Is this a fiberglass rod? Are you sure it is a fly rod?
It sounds almost like a boat rod used for saltwater fishing.
Can you send a picture to
[email protected] for review?
If it is a fly rod, it is not a model listed in my books. Again, if it is a fly rod, below the handle would be mounted the reel seat.
If it is a boat rod, there would likely have been a rubber bumper installer at the bottom of the wooden handle.
I can't really say much more until I figure out what type of rod you have.
Thanks, Joe

QUESTION: No I am not positive it is a fly rod but as a child I remember being taught to use it as a fly rod. I did find a number on the rod-Shakespeare no.2905-5'6" Medium, Made in USA ENA Could be fiberglas-color is on the gold side of yellow. Whatever was on the base of the wooden handle is missing. Reel: James Heddon& sons dowagiac WINONA -MICH
AnswerHi Suzanne,
I finally found the model 2905 Shakespeare rod in one of my reference materials. This is a boat or pier rod made for use in saltwater. It was made about 1965. The missing piece is a rubber bumper. Value would be in the $10-$40 range depending on actual condition of the rod.
Thank you for the extra help. Joe
