Question
Rod decal
Inherited from my father, I have a (?) bamboo fly rod with one identifying feature on it. It is approx. 7' long, two pieces, and the only "label" on it or ID is a decal above the grip. It is a indian chief in head dress looking to the left. Above the indian head are the words; Quality - Supreme and below are the words; All American Labor. The decal looks similar to the old Air Force logo from years gone by. A long rectangle with a circle in the middle of it. The left of the rectangular band of the decal has "PEQUEA" and the right band has "TRIBE".
AnswerHi Butch,
The JS Johnson sporting goods company in baltimore, MD sold a line of rods that included the Pequea Tribe model name. The bamboo rods they sold were private label rods made by Heddon. A 7'0" Heddon made bamboo rod would have two tip sections and would have pretty strong collector interest. Unfortunately, your rod is not bamboo, it is made of fiberglass that has been painted in a faux bamboo style.
It was likely made in the 1955-1960 time frame by someone like Horrocks-Ibbotson or Montague. It was probably sold by JS Johnson.
Likely value would be $50-$100 depending on the actual condition of the rod.
Thanks, Joe
