fenwick feralite fly rod
Question
Hi,
I picked up this rod at a yard sale. it's never been used however, I am anxious to get it set up. It has the following info printed near the base ff85-5 8 1/2' 4 1/8 oz also H 58240 It is a 5 piece rod. What weight might it be and what sort of line should I get for it. The old fellow I bought it from also sold me an old pflueger medalist reel which is well used but, appears to be in good order. Thanks
Answer
Hi Chad,
Looks like you found a nice rod at the yard sale. The Fenwick rods are very nice rods to fish with and a nice pack rod like this should be easy to transport as well. Good job.
It is probably rated as a 7/8/9 which means you will be safe using an 8wt line on the rod....either Weight Forward (WF) or Double Taper (DT) in 8wt will do fine. Value on the rod is probably around $100 since it is in unused condition.
The old Medalist reel is valued in the $10-$15 range as well useed; but it will likely keep working for you for years.
Thanks, Joe
