i recently recd a gliebe 840 pole w/reel can you tell me about it?

Hi Ann,

The Gliebe company was a sporting goods company in Brooklyn, NY.  They did not make rods.  Rather, they had rods made by other companies and their name put on the labels.  This is a common practice in the industry and these are called trade or private label rods.

I've seen a number of fiberglass rods bearing the Gliebe name one steel rod.  I do not know exactly which rod maker produced rods for Gliebe, many companies used more than one rod maker depending on what they wanted in their rod lineup, with both fiberglass and steel rods in the mix they had at least two providers.

You didn't say what type of rod this one is...fly, casting, spinning, saltwater...which may make some difference.  However, in good condition, the rod should be valued in the $20-$50 range.
