Wards Thorobred bamboo poles
Question
Hi my name is Eric. I was curious if my brother got a good deal on this antique bamboo rod. He bought it for $30 bucks. Its a 8 foot 3 piece bamboo rod with a green cloth carrying bag with a cardboard cylinder case with a screw on metal lid.Its in excellent condition other than the bag is in good condition and the cardboard cylinder is in good condition it has the original label on the cylinder thank you for your time
Answer
Hi Eric,
Mongomery Wards did not make rods, they had them made by other companies and the Wards name put on the rods. They typically bought from the mass production houses like Horrocks-Ibbotson and Montague and it is likely that your rod was made by one of those firms.
It is vary difficult to determine which H-I or Montague modle this rod might be patterned after, if any, so I'll give you sort of an average value of their rods to go by. The 8' length helps the value as shorter rods are typically more valuable than longer rods.
Depending on actual condition the rod should be valued in the $150-$250 range.
Thanks, Joe
