Heddon 2-Piece #15
Question
I have a 2-piece rod with (apparently original) bag and aluminum tube. The rod appears to be bamboo and has a cork grip in excellent condition. The bottom piece is marked "Heddon" in cursive script on the bamboo (appears to he hand-labeled under the lacquer?) and "# 15" on the bamboo just above the grip. One of the guide rings appears to be repaired to afix it to the rod. Does this item have any value?
Answer
Hi Jeff,
Yes, and value depends on the actual condition of the rod, bag and tube. The Heddon bamboo casting rods do not command prices as high as their fly rods, but they do have value.
This rod, bag and tube in Poor-Fair condition would be valued in the $30-$60 range; in Good-Very Good condition in the $90-$120 range; and in Excellent-Mint condition in the $175-$200 range.
You need to have the guide properly repaired before the rod could be rated much above Good on the condition scale.
The casting rods do not sell as quickly as the fly rods and they may or may not achieve the collector values stated above. It really depends on the condition of the piece and the motivation of the potential buyer.
Thanks, Joe
