Info on two rods
Question
I am trying to value and possibly sell my dad's fishing rods and reels. I'm hoping you can help me identify a couple of them. He has a Wright & McGill "Powerlight" (8 ft) It reads, H-9 MPLS-8. I would like to know what kind of rod it is, when it was made and if there is value.
Also, there is a Browning Silaflex 983S rod (8 ft.) with a Browning Graphite Spool 510 reel. I couldn't find anything about this one online.
There are several other rods and reels. Just in case you see something notable, here is the rest of the list:
Antique unmarked fly reel (see 1st image I found online, but no info)
Ru-Pacific Spin reel - made in France - probably 40's or 50's
Shakespeare Sturdy Stik I think it reads: UV?X 125 S6 - Heavy Action (It is white with black thread over red) with Penn Peerless No. 9 reel
Garcia 8 1/2' Light Medium rod, I think it reads - 26?1T
Wonderod 5'2" No. 1163 (Green rod in 2nd pic)
Colgrove Tackle Co. fly reel (made in Vancouver Wa where I've lived all my life)
Lamiglas red colored rod
Thank you!
Becky
Answer
Hi Becky,
The W-M Powerlight rod is likely one used for steelhead fishing from the 1960s-1970s or so. The Browning Silaflex is of similar vintage and likely a steelhead rod as well. Both have value, but not high collector value...probably in the $20-$50 range depending on actual condition.
I don't see anything special in the others. A good mix of very useable rods from trout to Salmon. You might try searching for fiberglass rod user discussion forums...there are several..and post some questions on those sites. If any of these are more desirable, someone who frequents one of those sites will express interest in the rod or reel.
Thanks, Joe
