inherited (2) vintage/antique rods
Question
Received 2 rods from my father's estate. Looking for any information about either or both.
#1 Bamboo color single rod marked in white lettering "Herter's". The model number is only partially readable due to minor boat rash.Has six combo #'s and letters...with last three being V2C. Approx 5'10" including cork handle with round black knob and adjustable sliding trigger underneath reel holder. Has 5 eyelets using mainly a pinkish color thread wrap with grey outer band each side. Metal reel holder reads "Herter's Inc., Waseca, Minn., Pat. Pend.Very very flexible and excellent condition.
#2 Very similar bamboo color to #1 above but is a two piece rod marked in black hand writing "Pflueger Megaflex". Model is #8-8260.Approx. 6'1" including cork handle. Has 5 eyelets using brownish-orange thread with brown thread forming lines within the brownish-orange wrap. Reel holder has stamped "Pflueger, Pat. Applied for, Akron Ohio, USA"
If wanted, I can take close up pics and send separately.
Answer
Hi Jerry,
From your description I'm guessing these are both fiberglass rods with the faux bamboo paint treatment. I would further guess these are fairly typical of the 1960s-1970s era and probably don't have a lot of collector value.
As good fishing rods they have value, but likely in the $15-$40 range depending on actual condition of each rod.
Thanks, Joe
