Hand Painted Brim
Question
Hello,
I am trying to find out information about a type of brim known to the locals of NW Florida as "Hand Painted Brim". Apparently this fish can only be found in NW Florida in the following areas: The Apalachicola river from the Woodruff dam in Chattahoochee to where the water turns brackish, all of the smaller rivers and creeks that fall into the Apalachicola river in Liberty county (Florida river, Equaloxic creek, Big Gully, etc...) and also in the upper and lower Oklochnee river from Gadsden county to Wakulla county where the water turns brackish.
I am a taxidermist that is looking for some photos of these fish to use as reference, but have not been able to find any information or pictures up to this point. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Shane
Answer
Shane, I have caught a fair number of these beautiful fish in the Intercostal waterway just east of Lake Wimico and on to the Pinhook of the Appalachicola; River. However, I do not know of a source for a good color picture of one. Have you tried the Florida department of game and fish?
They may be able to lead you to such a photo or painting.
I will do a search to see if I can find such a photo. If you will send me your e-mail address I will let you know how successful I have been.
Try sending the same message you sent me to fishing guide on the following site. http/.www.fishing.about.com. His name is Ronnie Garrison and he is very good about fishing. He has a friend who is a fisheries biologist in Georgia who's name I forget but he is likely to know something that might help.
Sorry I could not be of more help. Good luck in your quest.
