Where is te road to improvement

Question
Hello,
My name is Sadeeq. My wife and I recently joined a recreational team (c-Rec). We really want to help the team develop its skills, but have no idea where to start. We all work full-time jobs and barely manage to all meet once a week for the games.
Are there exercises and or other training that we can work on individually during the week?

Answer
Sadeeq,

The best place to practice volleyball is on the court BUT you are very lucky to have your wife as a partner because there are 100's of two person drills that you can do.  I don't know your skill level and I don't want to write drills that are either too easy for you or too hard because that would be a waste of time for the both of us.  What I would like you to do is tell me what the skill level of your team is (and that of you and your wife).  What particular skill you want to work on the most (passing would be my choice) and then I will send, via US Post Office, drills on paper that will be easier to follow.

A simple warm up drill you can do is called "pepper".  You pass to your partner she/he sets to you and then you hit a controlled spike to them.  She/he then passes the spike to you, you set to them and they hit a controlled spike to you.  The drill continues for as long as you want.  This drill warms you up, it helps passing, setting and arm swing.

I will be glad to send you some drills, send me the email and I will have them out to you in less than a week.

Good luck with your season.....volleyball is a GREAT sport.
