position of players
Question
Hi Amanda,
I'm a new high school volleyball coach. I've looked on the internet for advice and found many sites for drills and techniques. However, I know that players positions are important as well.
What are the positions of the players when the team serves or is receiving the ball?
If the team is receiving the ball, should the person in the middle front be facing the opposite team or her own players?
I hope you're able to understand what I'm trying to ask.
Thanks for any advice you can give me,
Danielle
Answer
Hi. When your team is serving you can set up a simple 6-2. What this is, is that after the ball is served the setter runs to the middle of the net. so you'll have the setter up by the net, and the 3 front girls behind her. Then you'll have your 2 back girls equally playing back. When recieving, you can use a simple 3-3 play. When the ball is on the opposing side, the back 3 people should be in a V. So that the 2 back side players are up close to the 10 ft. line, and the middle backer is in deep middle back. The front 3 people should be up at the net ready to block. when the ball is hit to that side, the setter stays up to the frontand then the rest go into a 2-2 zone. Which then the 2 fronts play at the 10 ft. line, and the other 2 back. The person in the middle should be kind of sideways as to see both teams when recieving the ball... in different situations. Best of luck to your team!
